We’re releasing RadarScope 3.7.3 for Android today to address the location services issue and a few others. Several changes have been made in an attempt to improve location services behavior. When RadarScope is denied location services at the requested accuracy level errors occur. We’re now trying again with a lower accuracy level. If that fails, we will advise users to change their location tracking settings to a higher level.
This has proven to be a tricky problem to solve. We’re continuing to follow Google’s recommendations for location services to the best of our ability, though our interpretation of their documentation has changed a bit in light of real-world behavior.
Changes include:
- The requirements for location tracking have been relaxed to work across a broader array of Android devices.
- Improved the spacing of storm track timestamps.
- Resolved networking issues under Android 4.4.
- Fixed an issue which could cause the distance tool to snap to non-visible map layers.
- Fixed an issue which caused AllisonHouse options to be inadvertently shown in the app settings.
- Fixed an issue with Spotter Network account permissions.
Most of our beta testers have reported improved behavior. We’ll release this update, collect feedback, and continue to work on improvements.
